Improving workflow at the beauty salon – does using a pair of huge scissors speeds up haircutting?

A viral video made rounds on the internet showing a long-haired guy chopping client’s hair with a huge pair of scissors. However, it turns out that it is not part of his usual routine. He said that actually he used them only three times in the last six months. All of them with the aim to get viral and focus the attention to the good cause of donating hair to people in need.

It turns out, no. But hey, the guy is using an enormous pair of scissors – he must be faster.  He goes by the motto: “Big Job, Big Scissors” and the popular videos feature comically big set of shears and few grinning clients.

Usually transformations involve young smiling female clients with long locks that are parted in pigtails that get snipped with the big scissors. Paul Desmarre is not using the typical styling tools, but the mother-of-all beasts’ humongous shears to make the first cuts. Of course, after the initial stunning transformation, Paul is using more conventional tools such as the well-known salon hair cutting shears and thinning scissors to shape the haircut from dull to amazing.

Of course, this is not your everyday salon cut. This is one in a lifetime, memorable cut. Something the clients would enjoy to remember. The oversize clippers get lot of giggles, and the videos are funny and creative, cleverly made. The transformation is usually from long locks to a new shorter cut.

Paul is not alone. The stylists are getting more and more creative with the tools they use to match the rising demands of their clients.

An Irish barber, for example, is using sheep shears to cut men’s hair. The strange haircuts started as a joke, not as a way to get viral. Few of his regular clients were local sheep farmers. They teased him that he is not a real professional if he cannot handle the huge sheep shears to cut his clients hair. The barber McGann accepted the challenge and proved them wrong.

Some other stylists took the experience to another level. Adding the fear factor, they cut hair with axes, sometimes working on two clients at the same time.

And finally, the most bizarre of them all – using samurai swords AND fire to get a smoking hot looks.

Are you aware of any others bizarre hair cutting methods? Any other speed-up ideas for hairstylists?

How to wear sneakers at work and not get fired?

Do you have strict dress code at work? Maybe you love your job, but hate your tight and uncomfortable shoes? We feel your pain. Not everyone has the luxury to wear whatever he/she pleases at work. There were times that we secretly envied everybody who was able to wear hoodies and sneakers at work. We were stuck in our tight, smart shoes for too long. And one day I decided I had enough. I spend the next two nights browsing a number of sites, looking for shoes to suit my needs. They needed to be both good looking and comfortable.

Truth to be told, finding suitable shoes was HARD. At the end of the first day, I was desperate that I won’t find anything. However, I found few recommendations that helped me out. At the end of day two I have compiled a sheet with four different comfortable and elegant shoes. Without further ado, here is what caught my eye. These shoes have excellent feedback from customers as well, so I am confident they are all worth it.

Merrell Jungle Moc Slip-On (men)

Merrell Men's Jungle Moc Slip-On

These Jungle Moc Slip-on are my number one favorite. Just make sure you get the oval nubs and you will have them for years to come. These run around half a size bigger, so make sure you have that in mind when purchasing. If you usually wear a 10, get 9.5 and you’ll thank me. Hands down the best comfortable and fairly dressy shoe in my opinion.

Polo Ralph Lauren (Men)

Polo Ralph Lauren Men's Faxon

These are the most casual of all. Simple canvas is extremely comfortable in the hot summer days. The black is really nice and it has the classical look I am onto. Fit is true to size as reported by many customers. However, these have flat sole and if you have any kind of foot pain, look into one of the other pairs. While definitely not outstanding, if you have normal legs (like most people) and don’t need arch support, these are a good pair.
I am totally in love with this classy, timeless look of these Faxons.

Clarks Wave Trek Lace-Up (woman)

These women’s walking shoes look amazing, and I ended up a pair for my wife. She is in love with their style and comfort. The innovated design makes walking really enjoyable and reduces fatigue. However, they need a little break-in time initially and after that they feel like socks on the feet.
Converse All Star Chuck Taylor (unisex)

converse all star chuck taylor

Awesome looking, casual and sustainable pair. Hi-tops allow to finely adjust the fit according to your preference. Solid built overall and snug fit, these canvas sneakers run cooler in the hot summer and my feet feel awesome wearing them. The best thing is that they are unisex and you can get the same shoes for your girlfriend, too.

Dynamic Desk Exercises To Make The Most Of Your Workday

If you are spending the most of your days sitting at your desk, wondering how to squeeze some exercises into your already quite busy schedule, we have some good news for you!

Try deskersize! Yeah, I know this is not a word. I’ve just made that one up. The point is that you can do some exercises while sitting at or near your desk.

Start from the basics:

stairsUse the stairs everywhere

Forget the elevator and use the stairs at home, in the office, at the grocery store. Make it a rule to only use the stairs even if you have to go to the 15th floor. You will burn a hundred of calories in no time. Just find a flight of 10-15 stairs and climb them (one at a time), then walk down. Walk up and down again. Do it five times.

Keep a food diary

Every bite counts. Make sure that you write down everything you eat, even if it is just a bite. At the end of the day read your log and mark everything you could spare. Do the same at the end of the week. Keeping a log will make you more accountable and next time you will be more motivated to resist to unconscious eating.

Be prepared

Always have a healthy snack within an arm’s reach. Raw nuts and fresh fruits are the best choice – not only you won’t pick up too much additional calories, but you will also do your body good.

Add some fun, too:

Working out should not be dull and boring. Grab a handful of paper clips and throw them around you desk. Then pick them up ONE BY ONE. Don’t bend over to pick each paper clip but squat down to pick them up. Don’t cheat, do it one at a time! You’ll notice a great difference very soon

Start with simple stretching exercises:

Stretch your neck, arms and legs every so often while sitting. Stand up every 30-40 minutes. That will prevent the stiff feeling of just having to sit all day.

While healthy actually rotating mental and physical activity will make you more productive and will keep you from simply staring at the screen without actually doing work.

Start from the top and work to the floor. Strech your neck by flexing your head forward and backward and side to side.

Roll your shoulders 10 times forward, then 10 times backward. Next roll your arms forward and backward, 10 times each.

Roll your wrists clockwise and counterclockwise. This is a very good exercise and will be good if you can do it every hour to release the stress from typing.

Stand up and lean to the right, then twist your body to the right. Alternate sides. Repeat this 30 times,

Roll your knees clockwise and counterwise, repeat it 20 times.

Finish this mini-exercise with rolling your ankles. The 5 minutes have past and you can now get back to your to –do list feeling refreshed and ready for your work.

If would be best if you wear comfortable shoes in the office or at least keep a pair of sport shoes in the office. I recommend picking up these or those as both are both looking good and won’t stress your feet. If both are not your cup of tea, you may take a look at the selection of crossfit shoes here. Rotating your shoes would help you keep your feet healthy and prevent all sort of feet problems, that uncomfortable work shoes can cause.

If you are doing some other exercises and are willing to share your tips to staying fit in the office, please leave a comment. We would love to hear back from you!
